Overview

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is Kamakura’s most important Shinto shrine, originally established in 1063 by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and later developed by Minamoto no Yoritomo, founder of the Kamakura shogunate. Dedicated to Hachiman, the guardian deity of warriors, this historic site symbolizes Kamakura’s samurai heritage. With its vivid vermilion buildings, iconic approach lined with torii gates, and serene ponds surrounded by seasonal flowers, it offers a beautiful blend of history and nature.
