Overview

As the largest Hachiman shrine of the Edo period, it is also considered the birthplace of sumo. The shrine grounds feature a monument dedicated to sumo wrestlers, blending history with sumo culture. One of the Three Great Festivals of Edo, the "Fukagawa Hachiman Festival," includes a water-splashing event that attracts both locals and tourists.
