Hōzōmon serves as the middle gate of Sensō-ji and functions as a storehouse for cultural treasures and Buddhist scriptures. It was once known as the Niōmon Gate, as it houses two guardian deity statues (Niō statues). The enormous lanterns and intricate carvings create a stunning and imposing visual impact.
