Kōtoku-in is a historic Jōdo-sect Buddhist temple in Kamakura, best known for its Great Buddha (Daibutsu) – a magnificent bronze statue of Amida Buddha standing over 11.3 meters tall and weighing approximately 121 tons. Constructed in the 13th century, the statue originally stood inside a temple hall that was later destroyed by a tsunami. Today, the Buddha sits peacefully in the open air, making it one of the most iconic and photogenic landmarks in Kamakura.
